Creating a Profile Image with AI

Have you seen or worked with the new AI image generating tools now available? The user enters a series of prompts for the AI, and the software generates an image. The possibilities are endless and can be a little overwhelming if you are just starting out. 

I started using the software primarily to generate avatar profile pics for an online game I am helping to create. We wanted a library of profile images that our players can have access to or compete for. 

My first step was to learn how best to prompt and AI to start to get usable results. I discovered that it’s not much different from any computer programming, garbage in, garbage out. The prompt must be specific and not confuse the AI generating the image. 

You can generate images using prompts that are simple and descriptive. I started with 

A portrait of a blonde warrior princess

 and got these results:






Next I inserted two descriptive words (luminous, gorgeous) to the prompt.

Next I added two more elements, one to describe the historical art style (fantasy) and the other to describe lighting (dramatic).

Next, I decided to use prompts for detail (highly), a word to boost uniqueness (masterpiece), color (metallic), and decorative texture (filigree).

Next, I added words to indicate the photography style (photoshoot) and a rendering technique (OctaneRender).

Finally, I decided to add an artist’s name the AI had been trained on. The AI would now try to create an image with that artist’s aesthetic.

Remember when you are working with an AI to be descriptive and be specific. Look to be surprised when you add words that are abstract concepts like “peace” or “love”. Add words to describe the photography or art styles, color or palettes, paint or print types, and rendering techniques or artist styles. AI software can make an artist out of anyone who can put an idea into words.
